How the goods travel
By sea in a container to Jakarta, Surabaya or Benoa, or by air for a small urgent consignment. Inter-island delivery adds a further leg and is planned as part of the movement rather than added afterwards.
From the port of arrival, onward delivery is well organised on the main islands. Bali and the smaller islands add a further sea leg; Jakarta traffic is a scheduling constraint rather than a distance one.

Indonesia permits the import of used household effects by a person holding valid residency, against a detailed inventory. Two regimes bear on a household shipment more than usual: the protected-species framework as it applies to timber, and biosecurity rules on plant material, soil and untreated wood.

What the furniture is made of
Certain rosewoods and related timbers are protected species, and they appear in ordinary British households more often than people expect — in guitar fingerboards and bridges, in mid-century furniture, in veneers and inlay on older pieces, in bowls and boxes brought back from somewhere years ago.
Shipping into a country with its own strict forestry regime makes that the sharpest question on the route. So the survey identifies timber species where it can and flags items where it cannot, and a specialist identification before packing is frequently the fastest way forward on a single valuable piece.
The permit itself is applied for through the proper authority. We do not hold permits, we do not issue anything, and we will not offer an opinion on whether one will be granted. What we will do is tell you which items are likely to need the question asked, early enough that the answer can arrive before the container does.
Biosecurity is the second half. Untreated timber, soil, seeds and plant material attract real scrutiny, and garden tools, wooden outdoor furniture and terracotta pots are where they arrive by accident. Cleaning thoroughly before packing solves most of it.
